A Tech Roof Garden Inspired By Southern Quilts
This 20,000 sf roof garden was designed to provide a variety of outdoor spaces, for a tech sector client. The design of the project and paving system is inspired by the Quilts of Gee’s bend: colorful, geometric, and loosely constructed quilts made in Alabama. The client wanted to have a variety of scaled spaces, small intimate meeting spaces, areas for groups, and a large assembly space for a variety of encounters, collaborations, and events. There is a fully functional kitchen and bar area, that is supported by a large scale organic herb garden. The main space is a linear artificial lawn, flanked by a long shade structure and a linear amphitheater. A fire pit, warms visitors at night as they gaze on the distant views of the bay and of the San Francisco skyline.
