A Celebration of the Northern California Landscape
Set amongst a classically picturesque Northern California landscape full of rolling golden hills dotted with oak woodlands is Mendocino Winery, located near Hopland, California. Fletcher Studio is working with MH Architects to enhance the outdoor visitor spaces on the property while retaining infrastructure key to wine production. One of the key interventions will be to design a grand entry experience offering clear direction to the on-site tasting room. A new sculptural gate as well as a series of typological strategies will be used to increase visibility of the winery for those driving along Highway 101. From the existing tasting room, a network of new pedestrian paths will lead visitors throughout the property to lakeside picnic spots, gathering areas amongst an olive grove, a dock that doubles as a stage, a pollinator garden, and to visit the resident alpacas. Our work will look to celebrate the native landscape by preserving views and using stone excavated on site from a new wine cave.
