2020 Architecture Merit Award for Better Place Forests
Fletcher Studio in collaboration with OpenScope Studio received a 2020 Architecture Merit Award from the AIA San Francisco Design Awards Program for our work on the Better Place Forests visitor pavilion in Point Arena, California.
The design awards jury consisted of Allison Arieff, Tim Culvahouse FAIA, Sheila Kennedy FAIA and Lawrence Scarpa FAIA. Here is the jury’s review of the project:
“The pavilion sits on the crest of a wooded rise, framing a view towards the meadow below, and marking the threshold of the visitors’ journey into the forest’s memorial groves. The standing seam Corten shell protects the redwood decks, fins, and paneling. The jury was stunned by such a lovely, light-on-the-land structure. A quiet and absolutely perfect architectural solution that provides an elegantly modest entry to a sacred natural landscape.”
